Located on a large peninsula in Marin, Tiburon’s mercurial views of land and sea provide the perfect backdrop for restrained modernity. John Stewarts’ clients, a couple with an extensive collection of 20th century art requested a contemporary interior for their hilltop home. Built in the 1970’s, the 4,000 square foot structure underwent a complete renovation in 2011.

On the main floor, Stewart complimented the interior architecture of tall ceilings, open doorways, and polished hardwood floors with a sand and shell color palette. At the entrance, the designer installed a wall-mounted console finished in several coats of white automotive lacquer. Stewart designed this piece along with much of the house’s other furnishings. The spacious living room features several seating groups upholstered in pearl hued textiles and grounded by a textured wool carpet. Opening up to the dining room, Stewart repurposed the client’s traditional cabriole legged dining table by giving it an ebonized finish and pairing it with streamlined horseshoe backed dining chairs.
