John Charles H. Stewart Creates a Formal Estate in Green Valley
The Green Valley estate showcases an expansive living room centered on a dramatic arched double story window. In front of this, John Charles H. Stewart placed a graceful curved 1940’s style sofa juxtaposed by one with a tufted tuxedo arm. Fern accent and ball pillows on the alabaster upholstered pieces echo the verdant Solano landscape. A pair of Queen Anne wing chairs flanks a stone mantel providing additional seating. The designer introduced a touch of whimsy with a Napoleon III style twisted and knotted rope coffee table. Grounding the room, an ivory geometric wool carpet adds texture. Across a grand entry hall, handpainted aquamarine Chinoiserie wallpaper sets the tone in the formal dining room. A massive gilt iron and crystal chandelier illuminates a rectangular dining table surrounded by os de mouton side chairs in tawny leather with wrapped outside back detail. Reflecting the room and guests, a crested Venetian mirror surmounts a French Provincial styled fruitwood buffet with shaped paneled doors.
